Как сообщает "Autonews", этот безнаддувный двигатель, разработанный на базе алюминиевого "MZR 1.3 DOHC", использует принцип задержки закрытия впускных клапанов во время такта сжатия, впервые предложенный изобретателем Ральфом Миллером в 40-е годы XX века. За счет этого снижаются затраты на трение, а более высокий коэффициент расширения повышает полезную теплоотдачу.
Кроме того, на новую модель впервые устанавливается бесступенчатый вариатор, передающий крутящий момент на низких оборотах без потерь мощности, а масса автомобиля уменьшена на 100 кг. В результате экономичность двигателя возросла на 20%. новая "Mazda2" расходует всего 4,31 литра на 100 км. А экологическая чистота нового агрегата позволила новинке войти в число автомобилей, освобождаемых от налогов в Японии.
