"Mazda Motor Corporation" объявила о создании сверхэкономичного двигателя "MZR Miller-cycle" объемом 1,3 литра, который будет устанавливаться на новую "Mazda2". Как сообщает "Autonews", этот безнаддувный двигатель, разработанный на базе алюминиевого "MZR 1.3 DOHC", использует принцип задержки закрытия впускных клапанов во время такта сжатия, впервые предложенный изобретателем Ральфом Миллером в 40-е годы XX века. За счет этого снижаются затраты на трение, а более высокий коэффициент расширения повышает полезную теплоотдачу.
Кроме того, на новую модель впервые устанавливается бесступенчатый вариатор, передающий крутящий момент на низких оборотах без потерь мощности, а масса автомобиля уменьшена на 100 кг. В результате экономичность двигателя возросла на 20%. новая "Mazda2" расходует всего 4,31 литра на 100 км. А экологическая чистота нового агрегата позволила новинке войти в число автомобилей, освобождаемых от налогов в Японии.
